A complete guide to Robbepop's "Monster Master RPG".

This guide is currently up-to-date for version 0.59b.

Many thanks to Robbepop for building this game, and for the many people who helped me find it, get into it, play through it, and collect data. Without your help I'd never have realized how much fun this game was, nor would I have been able to handle the excrutiating task of data-collection to build this guide.

Monster Master RPG - Culminative Guide

Game Basics

Welcome to the Monster Masters Culminative Guide. This is, at least as of the current version, the most comprehensive and up-to-date guide on all things Monster Master. For those of you unfamiliar with this great game, played on the Warcraft III Map engine and created by Robbepop (the maker of other great maps, such as Guild of Hyppos ORPG), this brief introduction will explain the premises of the game, and how it is played and gone through. For those of you who are well versed in the game, and are looking for specific details, you've still come to the right place, as just about every piece of information pertaining to the game can be found here, from every Monster's image, stats, attacks and types, every Fusion, every rare and powerful item, every Attack, and even the Portals and PvC challenges. Feel free to parouse these sections at your leisure. For the newer audience, continue reading to learn more about this great game.

How to begin
At the start of the game, after everyone had finished loading (You have to press "Any Key" in the loading process!), the music sounds and the game begins. If you have played before, you can enter a -load code with your saved statistics at this point. If you are new to the game, however, you can either watch a tutourial (-tut) or start anew (-new).

When you start a new game, you will get to choose between any of the 7 starting Tier 1 monsters. The game will show you their stats and skills, so decide what you want, and then it is time to head out. Your first monster will have some very low-grade Gray items, but those will be replaced later on.

Your Master
Your Monster Master is the Hero representation of YOU. He gains experience, levels up, can use items, and can learn skills. Like everything else in this game, he has a Level cap of 30. His Level will save between games with your -save codes, but additional experience into the level will not (ex. If you're halfway between Levels 24 and 25 when you save, your -load will be Level 24 with no extra experience in the bar). The items your Master can use are limited, but will primarily be potions for you and your Monsters, Nets for catching new Monsters, and Bait for the same purpose.

Your Master has several skills and abilities. There are 4 that can grow as you Level up:

Offensive Training
Improves the Damage of all your Monsters by +5% (of base damage) per skill-level.
Caps at Level 20 (+100% Damage)

Defensive Training
Improves the Armor of all your Monsters by +0.6 per skill-level.
Caps at Level 20 (+12 Armor)

Regenerative Training
Improves the HP Regeneration of all your Monsters by +0.25 HP per second per skill-level.
Caps at Level 20 (+5 HP per second)

Mental Training
Improves the Mana Regeneration of all your Monsters by +0.2 Mana per second per skill-level.
Caps at Level 20 (+4 Mana per second)

Each one fo these skills is an aura, and only affects your Monsters near to you. Also, these skills are not saved each game, so you can customize how you want to Level them up with each new game you join.

Next, there are 2 utility skills for your Master. Both of these have sub-skills that open when you use the skill. The first deals with Item Management, and lets you Sell, Store, or obtain Information on any item. The second is Monster Management, and this is what lets you summon or recall specific monsters (or all of them at once) while moving around the game.

Lastly, your Master's level will determine what items your Monsters can use, so it is important to level him up, quickly.

Structure of the Game
The basic layout of the map is quite simple. You begin on the main island, which has 3 levels of height. The top level has your Storage (i.e. your Stash), the portal to the Portal room, and the portal to the Monster Storage room. The Portal room is where you can enter various stages to train your monsters and catch new ones. The Monster Storage room is where you can keep extra monsters, since you can have a total of 6 monsters but only use 3 at a time. Please note that Items do not save in the Storage Room between -save and -load codes.

The next point on the island houses the 4 main shops. The first is a low-level item shop, which is never worth spending money on. There is the Net shop, the Bait shop, and the Staff shop, as well.

The bottom level on the island houses the Fusion portals, the -PvC portal, and the -PvP portals.

Levelling and Growth
I was originally planning on putting the Experience formulas for Levels here, but it seems they are more complicated than it's worth.

Long story short, your Monsters and Master can both get from Level 1 through to Level 30, where the game's cap sets in. Your Monsters' growth will depend on their level, the level of the monster they're killing, their Tier, and the Tier of the monster they're killing. If you are a low-Tier, and a low-level, and you kill a high-Tier, high-level monster, you'll get more experience than killing something of a lower Tier, or if you were higher Tier or Level. This means that leveling things up, earlier on, is easier than leveling later on. That being said, higher-Tiered monsters usually have better Stats and Skills, so this may tip the balance, as well.

The key levels to take note of are Level 10, when monsters can begin to fuse with eachother, and then Levels 15, 20, 25 and 30, which result in higher Fusion Level gains. Getting from Level 29 to 30 is very difficult, too.

Lastly, your Experience is shared if you have more monsters out. It doesn't get reduced if other players have Monsters out, but if you have 3 out, you're splitting the Experience by 1/3 each of what they would normally get. Your Master will not leech Experience from your Monsters, but he will gain it at the rate of a Tier 5 Monster.

Fusion Levels
Another important "Level" to consider in this game, and not to be confused with Experience Levels, is the "Fusion Level" (FL) your Monsters will gain from fusing with eachother. Whenever you catch a Monster, it will come at FL 0, meaning it has no background experience and it has no special growth. However, if you fuse it, at level 15 or higher, with another level 15 or higher monster, it will gain FL.

FL are important for several aspects, the first of which being for obtaining Tier 5, Tier H4, and Tier 4 monsters. To obtain any Tier 4 monster, you need two Monsters (specific ones, usually), with FL 15 or higher. Tier H4 required FL 10, and Tier 5 requires 2 monsters of FL 30. The max FL you can have is FL 60.

The second reason FL is important is for stat and damage growth. 5 out of every 6 Fusion Levels gained improve your monster's stats by +1 each (+1 to all stats). The 6th FL will improve damage by +1. This means your monsters can, at FL 60, have a base +50 to all stats, and +10 damage, equating to +500 HP, +250 Mana, +considerable HP and Mana Regen, and +10 Damage. Higher FL monsters fare better in the game than lower FL, and lower stat monsters.

Whether you gain FL, and how much FL is gained, depends on the Average Level (not FL) of the monsters.

  • If the Average is 10-14, you gain +0 FL
  • If the Average is 15-19, you gain +1 FL
  • If the Average is 20-24, you gain +2 FL
  • If the Average is 25-29, you gain +3 FL
  • If the Average is 30, you gain +6 FL

Fusing Monsters
In order to obtain Fusion Level, you need to Fuse Monsters. This can be done on the main island, at the bottom section. There are two circles to be found, labeled "Main" and "Sub". To calculate the type of your new Monster, you simply take the Type (or Primary Type, if you have a Tier 2 or 3 Monster; an Air/Water counts as Air, etc.) of the Monster, put it into the Main, and then the type of the Sub monster, and you get your outcome.

For example, a Tier 2 Air/Water fusing with a Tier 2 Nature/Demon would yield Air as Primary/Main, and Nature as Secondary/Sub, creating a Tier 3 Air/Nature.

Fusing 2 monsters of equal Tier will result in a higher Tier monster. Fusing a lower Tier monster may result in a higher Tier, but usually results in the same Tier as the highest monster fused.

To obtain Tier 4, Tier H4, and Tier 5 monster, specific fusion formulas must be followed, and FL rules adhered to.

Other Events
The last portion of the basics refers to Player vs "events", one of which is completely optional, and the other being necessary to improve your Rank.

PvC, or Player vs Computer, is a series of challenges that cost gold, and pits you against a Computer player with a pre-set team. You try to defeat the enemy and his team, and that improves your Rank, allowed you access to more Portals. You cannot attack the enemy Master, however, until all his monsters have perished. He can also revive his monsters after 45s, as you can. You find the PvC circle on the lower portion of the Main Island, and enter it by typing "-pvc". Read more on this further on in the guide.

PvP, or Player vs Player, is a fun, competetive arena where you can fight another player, or players, with your Monsters. The rules are the same as PvC, only there is no real prize for winning except for bragging rights.

Tier 1 Monsters
Spoiler

The first monsters you will come across in Monster Master, these 7 fledgling monsters represent the essentials of all the other denizens of creatures in the game. Spawned from the 7 basic elements found in the game, each has their own unique abilities which will lend to them growing in power as you utilize them.

At the start of the game, you will get to pick from one of these 7 monsters. While they are all similar, statistically, with stats that range from 22-57 when maxed at Level 30, they have some differences that should be noted. If you're looking for something to brutally tank for your Master and his allies, you may want to pick a melee monster, which will drive enemies' focus onto them. If you're looking to hang back and deal larger damage, you will probably want to pick a ranged monster.

In any case, train your monster well, for before long you will be fusing it with another creature, to create a new, stronger Tier 2 monster (assuming you don't fuse two identical monsters, anyway).

And now your cute little Tier 1 monsters, which numbered only 7, have spawned into a denizen of new, Tier 2 monsters, totalling 42 altogether. The various combinations are many, and I won't focus on any specific monsters, themselves. However, some generic traits seem to appear throughout the monster Types, at this stage, namely:
  • Air tends to be ranged, damage dealing monsters.
  • Beast tends to have melee and tanking monsters.
  • Demon tends to deal damage with buffs and debuffs.
  • Dragon tends to be beefy, but deal good damage with spells.
  • Nature tends to support and disable.
  • Unholy tends to cast lots and disable.
  • Water tends to favour casters and frosty slows.

And now we see the monsters that will inevitably be the most frequently seen and handled in the game. There monsters form the majority of the denizens of Portals 7 through 13, in addition to being the highest Tier achievable by unplanned and low-levelled fusings. For all of that, these monsters are quite capable, and the aforementioned trends tend to dissolve into suggestions, for they tend to cross all kinds of boundaries based on each individual monster.

At this point, particularly while levelling up and finding Fusion Scrolls, players will be able to plan out specific monsters for their Tier 4 fusions, and will probably see how useful some are, and how utterly pathetic others are. The author's opinions are quite clear on this: since stats don't add to damage, Strength heroes are for tanking, Agility heroes are for damage, and Intelligence.... well, let's just say there are some fun-looking spells out there, but the better monsters are those with low Intelligence, and high Strength and Agility.

Now we get to the filet mignon of the Monster Master world. These are quite possibly the hardest monsters to obtain, requiring that you train your Tier 3 monsters, fusing them into specific combinations you find on Fusion Scrolls, and yielding these considerably more powerful monsters. While there are not quite as many Tier 4 monsters as previous Tiers, and they appear to 'lose' a sub-type, don't mistake their power, as they have superior stats and, in many cases, superior skillsets to compliment these stats.

Sadly, some of the more interesting models and monsters end their evolution at this stage. Particular notes go to the statistically superior Poison Elemental and Kobold Mage, and the most interesting models coming from the Poison Elemental and Black Widow.

Lastly, it should be noted that in many of these fusions, there is a very defined Main and Sub monster for the fusion. However, in some cases, it doesn't matter which is which. The multicoloured arrow represents those few times.

Tier H4 Monsters
Spoiler

The Hybrid monsters form a somewhat unique group, statistically on-par with the Tier 4 monsters, but obtaining them is of a mixed variety of difficulty.

On one hand, it could be viewed as easier to obtain a Tier H4, as you need only a monster with a Fusion Level of 10 (any monster, of any tier!). For the new player, this could be seen as considerably simpler than getting two specific monsters to a Fusion Level of 15. However, the second monster is any Tier 5 (???) monster. In many cases, this can be provided by a more experienced player. However, to obtain a Tier 5, yourself, in order to later get a Tier H4, seems to be a very runaround and lengthy procedure. If you have the assistance of someone higher than you, it works fine.

In any case, these monsters are powerful and diverse, and a welcome addition to any team. Further, each one of them carry on to a Tier 5 fusion, so that's always a nice, simple outcome for the original oddity of obtaining one of these creatures.

And we come to the end of the line. The ultimate beasts, as it were. These monsters are the cream of the crop, and the statistical top-of-the-lines. Since these are the final monsters, I will write a brief description of each:
  • Balamoth - A damage dealer, with high Agility for regular attacks, and several damaging spells, many of which are AoE.
  • Dark Dorem - A very versatile monster, with incredible Agility for damage dealing, good Strength for survivability. Throw in the incredibly helpful Curse to help with damage, Vampirism to help with damage and surviving, and Evasion to help survive, this is perhaps the most sought-after monster, and for good reason.
  • Drac Lord - A casting monster, with a strong AoE spell and a disable, as well as a supportive healing spell. He has good Strength for his own survivability, as well.
  • Draelokk - An AoE damage dealer, with great Strength for survival, and 3 AoE damage spells/abilities.
  • Duros - An offensive, melee fighter, he has abilities to boost both his attack damage and speed, and the ability to deal AoE damage with his attacks, too. High Strength and good Agility pair well with his low spell-costs.
  • Hagon - The well-rounded monster, with 3 offensive spells. No real weaknesses, but no noteworthy strengths, either.
  • Infernal - The strongest of the strong, the Infernal is the ultimate tank. Unfortunately, he attacks slowly, and lacks mana, but he doesn't use much of it for his task of drawing fire and protecting his allies.
  • Iraculus - A caster through-and-through, with high Intelligence, a self-healing ability, a team-healing ability, and a mighty AoE spell.
  • Megyr - Another tank, with high Strength and Intelligence to compliment his abilities to support, rather than just tank. He can render himself invincible while he heals his allies, and should he fall, he gets right back up.
  • Mirudoras - The ultimate damage dealer, with the highest Agility out there, with good Intelligence to partner with his AoE damaging spells. He also packs his own mana regeneration with his Brilliance Aura, saving your Master's abilities for other fields.
  • Orligon - Possessing the coolest avatar in the game, in my opinion, he also has the highest Intelligence in the game, paired with Manashield to make him a quasi-tank. Should his mana ever wane, he can just steal more from his foes, to boot.
  • Revage - Another massive damage dealer, with high Agility, the ability to disable enemies' spells with Manaburn, more damage from his Critical Strikes and survivability and damage dealing Illusions.
  • Sinister - A heavy damage dealer, focused on damaging a specific target, but giving a wide array of added damage with his armor-destroying Corruption Aura.
  • Tamuha - A high Strength monster with the ability to damage those around him, attack quickly, and Bash his opponents into submission. Unfortunately, he has too much Intelligence rather than Agility, in my books, as his skills don't require that much mana.
  • Serpentia - A well-rounded, high strength monster with quasi-tanking abilities, the ability to boost his attack speed and damage, and then to deal it out to a crowd before him.
